What it's like to be a New Orleanian outside of New Orleans.
I love travelling, it keeps me from getting stir crazy, but whenever I travel outside of Louisiana I might as well by travelling to a foreign country. I spent Thanksgiving in Georgia with my family, and I was in for a lot of surprises when I stepped out of the car. The first thing that surprised me was finding out that pharmacies and gas stations don't sell alcohol. We had to buy our drinks from a "liquor store." Here, you can go to the grocery store, gas station, or a pharmacy and buy alcohol and it's completely normal. In Georgia, the lady behind the counter at the CVS looked at me crazy when I asked what aisle the frozen daiquiri mix was on. If you're ordering a burger or sandwich in a restaurant you can't ask for it "dressed" unless you want to spend a few minutes explaining what you mean by "dressed." Being away from home made me think of a Buzzfeed post....not really but here's the link anyway. http://www.buzzfeed.com/megannj/things-people-say-to-new-orleanians-h7u0
