I recently visited the Healing Center in the Marigny. It is
a large and lavish place. Inside there is a Middle Eastern restaurant named
Fatoush; however, that day they had a pop up with New Orleans food, and Ms.
Linda—who won Chopped: Pride of New Orleans contest—was the cook. I had a very spicy yakamein and
the most awesome bread pudding. Ms. Linda is trying to have her own restaurant,
and that is why Fatoush is having her in its kitchen every Sunday. The
restaurant was filled with many of her friends and acquaintances, and after
dinner she went outside and talked to everyone about her expectations for the
pop up. I think pop ups are a great
opportunity to support local chefs and attract more people. Ms. Linda it is
definitely doing a very good job in trying to reach the people in New Orleans
by selling her food in the Ogden Museum, in the po-boy fest and in the healing
center, and although some New Orleanians would argue her yakamein is too spicy,
she still attracts a lot of people with her different dishes in the menu and
warm personality.
I'm definitely one who argues that Ms. Linda's ya-ka-mein is too spicy - at least too spicy for me! I'm glad to know about her pop-up, though, at Fatoush in the Healing Center.
