Is This CVS or a Liquor Store?
One of the most astonishing things to me when I first arrived in New Orleans was the amount of alcohol found in the pharamacies. The CVS on Canal street has an extensive selection taking up at least 3 aisles as well as most of the refirgerated section. The first time I went in over the summer looking for a cold (non-alcoholic drink) I found it was a struggle as most of the drinks sold there were booze. I soon found out that Cvs wasn't the only pharmacy consumed by alcohol, Rite Aid, and other Cvs branches around the city also served as an outlet for booze. I'm from the northeast and I promise you that if you were to walk into the local Cvs, even in Boston a drop of liquor would not be found. This practice was wild to me, and now when I go back home I'm almost sad to see shelves filled with basic nessesities instead of alcohol. It's just one of those querky things that I was taken aback by at first, but now find it amusing.
