A thought provoking art project was brought back to its home and featured at the Ogden Museum of Art in Downtown New Orleans. Candy Chang's project "Before I Die..." has been recognized internationally for its interesting and interactive subject material that answers plainly the question: what do you want to do before you die? Candy Chang is an inspirational artist that uses her skills to "meet our needs and dreams" (
TEDtalks 2013). She is an extremely important artist to New Orleans claiming the city as her home and being overtly proud of it. The answers to the project are moving, heart wrenching, funny, and weird. Candy Chang started the project on an abandoned building on Burgundy Street in New Orleans to commemorate the passing of a loved one, "Joan" as she calls her. Realizing the shortness of life she started the project to encourage others to reflect on their lives.
"It's about knowing you're not alone, it's about understanding your neighbors in new and enlightened ways, it's about making time for reflection..." - Candy Chang
Way to go Candy!
